Midnight Sun and a Study in Seaweed

The endless summer light here is amazing.

Since it's the solsticy time of year, I went down to the harbor the other night to photograph a midnight sunset. This photo was captured at exactly 12:00:23AM. Can you believe how light it is still?

Though I started the evening with my sights set on the midnight sun (and getting many lovely photos you'll get to see in my book), I found myself more inspired by... the kelp. I couldn't get enough of that satisfying twirling and whirling in the waves, and it soon became my muse. I can't wait to blow one of these bad boys up to a large format print on a nice textured paper. Mmm.

And because it never gets dark here, I lost track of time and found myself walking home after 2:30am. Oops.

  1. Your photos are amazing (and I love your blog)! Can you tell me what camera body and lens do you use?
